Orano optimizes the reception of equipment
and construction sites with Diota

Industry : Energy and chemical industry

• Time saving

• Work comfort & ergonomics

• Traceability

Products used

Orano has made operational excellence one of its strategic priorities. It includes a major investment plan to renew and modernize its industrial sites to achieve the highest standards in terms of safety, industrial performance and environmental impact. Engaged in front of several large-scale projects, the French nuclear specialist therefore attaches paramount importance to the flawless follow-up of its construction sites.

Validation of the conformity of various equipment with a view of their integration in global installations

  • Check configuration and dimensions during inspection of equipment such as vessels, silos, pressurizers
  • Control of presence / absence and position of platforms and pipe support on construction

  • Inspect elements invisible to the naked eye on equipment

  • Risk of non-conformity due to errors in specifications or execution.

Used on construction or renovation projects in Orano, Diota’s digital-assisted operator solution enables operators to control the reception of equipment and installations while dynamically previewing planned locations.

Bringing digital data and the 3D mock-up on the field thanks to Diota augmented reality solution, inspectors can compare the as built vs the as-designed, checking positioning, absence/presence of elements.

The controller completes his verification by visualizing on site the implantation as defined in the digital model of the installation.

Results & Benefits

At the end of the day, significant gains in terms of time, cost savings and traceability.

  • Control time reduced
  • Early detection of anomalies, allowing anticipation of the impact of the implementation of equipment
  • Increased responsiveness for taking corrective actions in case of non-compliance
  • Risk minimized in integration phase

The Story

A double objective of reliability and quality

On the one hand, the operator must verify that the construction complies with the specifications defined by engineering, by checking the presence and location of all the elements necessary for the operation of the future site. On the other hand, the project owner needs to ensure the feedback of the information from the field to the teams in charge of the design so that they carry out the necessary corrections or optimizations and manage the collaboration with the suppliers.

Be it verification or reporting, the procedures implemented must finally meet a double objective of reliability and speed, knowing that inspections are often performed indoors, in height or in low light conditions. They also cover components of a very diverse nature, from structural work to final equipment, including electrical, hydraulic or mechanical systems.

It is in this particularly demanding context that Diota’s digital-assisted operator solution, adapted in partnership with Orano, specifically addresses the needs of the businesses concerned.

Equipment inspection and pre-implant validation

Used on a tablet, for maximum mobility, or via a HoloLens mixed reality helmet, it allows you to first inspect a device by comparing it with its 3D model. Orano is able to verify the conformity of the orders delivered by its suppliers. In some cases, the operation can even be performed remotely, via a simple video.

Once on site, the solution developed by Diota is able to display the same 3D model with great precision on the site of its future implementation. Through this superposition, the operator visualizes directly the good match between the construction and the technical prerequisites defined during the design.

He checks, for example, the presence of the various inputs and outputs necessary for the operation of a machine, the accessibility of the equipment or the respect of the integration standards, without having to make tedious manual measurements.

An effective solution throughout the project

The operator validates and comments on the different inspection points directly within the augmented reality interface. Once validated, its report is automatically saved and transferred to engineering, so as to facilitate collaboration between the businesses and ensure the traceability of operations.

Unlike applications based on the development of a fixed reference model, Diota’s DIGITAL-ASSISTED OPERATOR solution proviodes efficiency and reliability even in a constantly changing environment. It is thus possible to visualize the location of a machine and its technical prerequisites at each of the different stages of the site. Innovative and efficient, the solution is operated independently by the Orano teams, who are now exploring new use cases.

Beyond the use cases that we master today in terms of inspection, there are many cases of uses that we plan to test and qualify, coming with a high potential for both engineering and different Business Units of the Group, for example for maintenance support, for training, and many other things.
